Security

How we handle your keys

You are being asked to hand the most sensitive material you own to someone you found on the internet. That is a reasonable thing to be uncomfortable about. Here is exactly what we do to make it safe, so you can judge it rather than trust it.

Protocols

What actually happens to your material

  • Air-gapped, always

Sensitive work happens on machines that have never been connected to a network and never will be. Not a firewalled machine, not a VPN - a machine with no path to the internet at all. Key material cannot leak from a device that has nowhere to leak to.

  • In person for anything significant

We come to you, anywhere in New Zealand, at our cost. This is a security measure before it is a service one: if the work happens in the room with you, your seed phrase never has to travel, never gets typed into anything you cannot see, and never leaves your possession.

  • No cloud, no remote access, no third-party tools

Nothing is uploaded, synced, or processed by an outside service. We do not ask to remote into your computer. Every tool used is one we control and can account for.

  • Nothing is retained

Keys, phrases and working material are destroyed or returned to you when the engagement ends. We keep no copy for any reason. There is no archive of client key material because we do not create one.

  • NDA before anything starts

A full non-disclosure agreement is available and signed before work begins. Confidentiality is contractual, not a promise on a website.

  • We never confirm you were a client

We do not disclose that an engagement happened, discuss case details, or confirm your involvement to anyone outside the team - under any circumstances, including to people claiming to be acting for you.

What we will never do

Hold us to this

If we ever do any of the following, you are not talking to us - you are talking to someone impersonating us.

  • Ask for your recovery phrase or private keys through this website, email, SMS or any chat application.
  • Ask you to send funds to a wallet address to release, unlock or insure a recovery.
  • Ask for payment before the recovery has succeeded.
  • Ask you to install remote access software so we can “take a look”.
  • Contact you out of the blue offering to recover funds you have lost.

If you receive a message that appears to come from us and does any of the above, it is not from us. Contact us through this site to check.

For legal matters

Chain of custody

Where a recovery forms part of an estate, a separation, or a dispute, the work has to survive being examined afterwards. We document custody and method to a standard suitable for proceedings, and our director gives evidence as an expert witness in cryptocurrency matters. Where a matter needs formal forensics or testimony, it is handled through Crypto Consulting NZ alongside your solicitors.

You'll hear back from Nic or Harry directly - not a call centre. Beware of scammers.

Contact us

Tell us what happened and we'll call you back within 24 hours. The assessment is free, confidential, and carries no obligation - and if we don't think we can help, we'll say so on that call, not after taking a fee.

  • No fee unless we succeed

10% of what's recovered, agreed in writing beforehand. Nothing if we fail.

  • We can come to you

Anywhere in New Zealand, at our cost, for cases of significant value.

  • Nothing is retained

Keys and phrases are destroyed or returned at the end of the engagement. NDA signed before we start.

Never send a recovery phrase or private key through this form, or through any website. Describe the situation in general terms and we will handle the sensitive detail securely on the call.

No fee unless we succeed. We respond within 24 hours.
