Our Specialty Areas

Discreet. Scientific. Exhaustive.

From simple to seemingly impossible, we're built for the full spectrum of wallet recovery.

Seed phrase recovery

Seed phrase recovery

Missing or damaged recovery words, reconstructed mathematically.

A recovery phrase carries a built-in checksum, so most damaged phrases can be rebuilt by working through the valid possibilities systematically rather than guessing. Missing words, wrong order, and illegible handwriting are all constraint problems, solved offline and verified against a known address.

What we cover

  • A 12-word phrase carries a 4-bit checksum, a 24-word phrase an 8-bit one, invalidating all but a fraction of candidates

  • One missing word at 24 words collapses to roughly 8 valid candidates, verifiable in minutes

  • Every BIP-39 word is uniquely identified by its first four letters, so smudged endings rarely matter

  • Wrong word order is a permutation search, not a dictionary search

  • Detection across all ten BIP-39 languages, since a phrase won't validate against the wrong wordlist

  • Every candidate checked against a known address before anything moves

    Hardware wallet forensics

    Hardware wallet drained mid-transaction

A family's life savings sat on a hardware device that was being emptied in real time. The compromise was in the signing path - the device was approving a transaction that was not the one the owner believed they were confirming. We stopped further loss first: isolated still-good keys, moved the remaining balance to clean air-gapped hardware, then reconstructed how the signing UI had been bypassed.

    Seed phrase reconstruction

Bitcoin locked behind a decade of stacked obstacles

Access had been gone for more than ten years. The backup predated current standards, storage had degraded what was written down, and format plus path unknowns were stacked on top of each other. We worked the obstacles in order on-site: fixed the historical format first, verified each stage against the chain, then restored access on air-gapped equipment.

  • 1 BTCrecovered

    October 2025

    Legacy wallet.dat extraction

2015 wallet with a partial historic breach

A 2015-era Bitcoin wallet had been breached years earlier. The owner wrote it off as empty; 0.4 BTC had left, but 1 BTC was still sitting in a legacy structure modern software would not rebuild by default. We mapped the on-chain history to prove what remained, rebuilt the pre-SegWit wallet layout, verified the address match, and migrated the balance to a current secure wallet.

  • $30KTRX recovered

    September 2025

    Key format conversion

TronWatch private key rejected by every modern wallet

Early TronWatch had exported a 128-character key. Every current wallet treated it as malformed, so the TRX looked permanently lost even though the key material was intact. We identified the obsolete export encoding, reduced it to the standard importable form, confirmed the derived address matched the holding balance, then restored access.

Scam Warning

Most “crypto recovery” services are scams

If you've already lost money once, be careful who reaches out next. Scammers buy and sell lists of people who've responded to scams before - so even replying to one can mean more of them find you. Watch for unsolicited “wallet recovery” emails or texts especially; a lot of the “recovery experts” who show up afterward are working off those same lists.

The pattern is usually the same: they want paying before they've done anything, they promise results nobody can actually promise, and they'll ask you to type your recovery phrase into a website. But the simplest tell is this - if someone contacts you first about recovering your crypto, it's a scam. We only ever work with people who come to us.

You'll hear back from Nic or Harry directly - not a call centre. Beware of scammers.

Contact us

Tell us what happened and we'll call you back within 24 hours. The assessment is free, confidential, and carries no obligation - and if we don't think we can help, we'll say so on that call, not after taking a fee.

  • No fee unless we succeed

10% of what's recovered, agreed in writing beforehand. Nothing if we fail.

  • We can come to you

Anywhere in New Zealand, at our cost, for cases of significant value.

  • Nothing is retained

Keys and phrases are destroyed or returned at the end of the engagement. NDA signed before we start.

Never send a recovery phrase or private key through this form, or through any website. Describe the situation in general terms and we will handle the sensitive detail securely on the call.

No fee unless we succeed. We respond within 24 hours.

FAQ

Questions people ask first

How do I know you're not a recovery scam?

If someone contacts you first about recovering your crypto, it's a scam - we only work with people who reach out to us. We never ask for payment upfront, and we never ask for your seed phrase or private keys by form, email or chat. We're a registered New Zealand business (NZBN 9429051848330). Both of us are directly contactable and can fly anywhere in New Zealand. If your wallet isn't recoverable, we say so on the first call.

What does it cost?

10% of what's recovered, nothing if we don't succeed. Free assessment call, no obligation. Fee agreed in writing before any work starts. We travel to you at our own cost.

Should I send you my seed phrase?

No - never, by form, email, chat or phone. We only work with seed phrases in person, at the point we're actually executing the recovery, at a location you choose. Anyone asking for it before that, through any channel, is hostile.

How long does recovery take?

Most cases resolve on the same day we meet. The main exception is reconstructing missing or damaged seed phrase words, which can take longer depending on how many words are missing. During our free assessment, we'll give you a realistic expectation based on your exact case.

Do you actually come to me?

For anything of significant value, yes - anywhere in New Zealand, at our cost. We work on air-gapped equipment in person, in a controlled offline environment built to minimise risk at every step. It also means your key material never leaves the room, or travels anywhere at all.

What happens to my keys afterwards?

Destroyed or returned to you at the end of the engagement. Nothing is stored, transmitted or retained. A full NDA is signed before any work begins. We can also guide you through setting up a hardware wallet afterward, so you're on stronger ground going forward.

Can you help if I sent funds to a scammer?

That's a different situation from wallet recovery, but you're not out of options. Feel free to contact our parent firm, Crypto Consulting NZ, for scam support, tracing and forensics, and legal or investigative advice.

What if you can't recover it?

You pay nothing, and we tell you as early as we can rather than stringing the engagement out. Some wallets are genuinely unrecoverable, and being straight about that is the whole basis of how we work.
